Although we love the summer months for the longer days and more sunshine, the brighter weather can bring its own inconveniences.
Window coverings need to effectively control the light entering a room, for various reasons. The early sunrises will have you (or your children) getting up with the lark if you don’t have curtains or blinds that keep out the light. Blackout blinds are ideal for bedrooms and preserving sleep, so take a look at vertical and roller blinds made from blackout material if you are being disturbed too early in the day.
Direct sunlight can also cause difficulties if you are trying to work at your computer or watch television. Screen glare is uncomfortable for your eyes and can make seeing anything on the screen a real struggle. Look for blinds that allow you to direct the sunlight away from the screen, while still allowing light into the room, such as Venetian or vertical blinds.
Blinds such as these can also help protect any soft furnishings or paintings you may have. Over exposure to sunlight can cause colours to bleach and fade, so make sure your blinds can direct the light away. Another option is to go for blinds made from fabric that filters and softens the light, thus protecting your interior decorations.
